Indian cooking Habits

Indian cooking has matured through the ages with their cooking. There have been many influences in Indian cooking. You can see the influence of Mughals in the north Indian dishes. In Goa you can see the influence of Portuguese in the local dishes. The Indian food is mainly cooked with spices. Spices are used abundantly in Indian dishes. There are different types of spices. There are different combinations of spices that are used in cooking various dishes. The different combinations of the spices give different flavors. It dish is unique.

Freshly ground spice is used in every day meal. The fresh ground spice gives a fresh and unique flavor to the dishes. The ingredients like onion, garlic, ginger are also freshly ground. Nowadays food processor is used to grind these ingredients; many traditional homes still use the pestle and mortar to grind various spices or onions, etc.

The spices used in Indian dishes have medicinal values as well. You easily get grounded spices nowadays, but these spices do not give as fresh flavor as fresh ground spice. You can buy whole spices and grind them in a food processor. The spices that have been ground freshly taste better and give more flavors to the food.

The Indian women do all their buying freshly. They buy fresh vegetables daily and cook fresh food daily. They don’t have the habit of cooking and keeping for a whole week. The taste of the fresh food is definitely better than food cooked and stored. Until today in many houses the food brought to the table is not kept back in the kitchen, but is distributed to the servants. The flavor of Indian food is unique as they use fresh ingredients and have fresh food daily.
